Don’t Just Show Up – Be Present

It’s said that Happiness can only be found in the present moment, that’s where it lives, that’s its home. When we live in the past or in the future, we are missing out on the freedom and peace that is in the now. With all the craziness that is associated with being a boss woman, we often forget to stop, relax and live in the moment.

"Tomorrow will come on its own time. Today is really what we have and we prepare for the future by honoring the present.!"

Leonie Dawson

  1. When you’re talking to someone, pay attention

Often times when we have a conversation, our mind tends to wander off, get sidetracked and then come back all the way around. If we’re thinking too much about what to say next, we’ll end up responding in a way that totally doesn’t make sense. Live in the present and listen to what is being said. This allows us to set aside our judgment for a few moments and look at the situation with fresh eyes and a different perspective. The bonus, people will not feel ignored and will perceive you as mindful and a good listener.

  1. Live slowly, and savor your life

Just because we live this crazy busy lifestyle, it doesn’t mean that we can’t slow down and savor the moments in between and within. By actually slowing down and experiencing what is happening in the present, life becomes amplified. Instead of complaining or comparing your situation to another, take the time to be grateful. All it takes is a little mindfulness and the realization that all we have is this day, this moment. Savor what you have that no one else has, your gifts, your personality, your sense of humor and most importantly, your heart.

  1. Stop worrying about the future

We’ve all had those moments where we’re busy with something but stressing about a task for tomorrow. Or on a vacation, waiting to come back again when presently, we are there, so why not enjoy the moment while it lasts? Stop worrying about the future because we cannot predict it. From your career to your relationship, your kids to the way things are in your business, worrying about it will not change it or the present. Have the confidence in your ability to adapt and take on the challenge when things don’t go as planned.

  1. Quiet your mental chatter

If we listen to the mental chatter of negativity and why we shouldn’t be doing this or going after that, then we lose sight of our happiness. Stay positive and let go of what needs to be released. Those that live in the moment tend to be happier, relaxed and more appreciative. When you quiet your mental chatter, you are allowing yourself to be in tune with what your emotions and body sensations are presently.

  1. Stop and smell the flowers

Seriously! When you walk pass by a vase of blushing peonies, a thicket of rose bushes or stems of tulips, take a brief moment and engage your sense of smell. Slow down and take the time to appreciate nature and its beauty. The goal is to bring awareness to your life and savoring all those small moments of enjoying what is around you. Take one day at a time and enjoy the simple pleasures that life has to offer.
