Our minds are complex. But, we live in our minds a majority of the time. Our minds become our home. We have to make our home a safe place for us. The mind can be tricky. It can be filled with more thoughts than it is able to hold. The mind can place a great weight on your shoulders, especially when it holds negative thoughts. It is normal and natural to have negative thoughts. However, you need to practice controlling your mind at times. The mind is capable of drowning you if you let it.

Sigmund Freud said, “Unexpressed emotions will never die. They are buried alive and will come forth later in uglier ways.” In other words, ignored feelings will come back to possibly harm you in the future. You can’t get rid of anything that you don’t face. You can’t keep ignoring how you feel. You can’t keep ignoring your thoughts. You can’t keep burying the experiences that affected you deep down inside of you. You have to listen to your mind and what it is communicating to you. You have to be aware of what you are feeding it and how your mind is reacting to it. Everything that your mind absorbs is important because what you give your mind will be what you are composed of. Your thoughts become who you are. Are you allowing negative thoughts to constantly enter your mind without room for any positivity? Are you doing more harm than good to yourself? Does happiness feel unattainable?

These are questions that you must ask yourself. There are different versions of success depending on the person. However, in my opinion, the greatest form of success is happiness and peace. In order to achieve these two, you must pay attention to your mental health.

Here Are 5 Habits To Form So That You Can Pay More Attention To Your Mental Health:

  1. Take time to reflect.

Think about your happiness. Are you more happy than sad? What are some things that happened during the day that you can fix moving forward? Set some time to contemplate how your day was and what you can improve about it as you move forward.

2. Surround yourself with people who positively feed your mind.

Surround yourself with people who believe in you and who push you to be your best self. If you constantly surround yourself with those who don’t make you want to improve yourself in a certain aspect, then what is the point? Surround yourself with those who don’t always tell you yes, but will be there to push you and support you when it is needed. Their advice can be critical, but it is constructive criticism, not just negative energy with no support. The people around you should inspire you, regardless of what that inspiration is.

3. Set aside time for doing what you love.

Sometimes our lives can get so busy that we can lose track of doing what we love. Make sure that you don’t neglect what you love. Draw. Read. Write. Go for a run. Cook. We should never be too busy to do what we love.

4. Slow down, take deep breaths, and remind yourself of your strength.

Positive reinforcements are important. Sometimes life can move too fast and we forget to slow down. When we keep going and don’t take breaks, we tend to bury our thoughts and not tackle our issues. When we do that, we become overwhelmed, if not consciously, subconsciously. Any obstacle that you have faced, you have overcome. You can overcome others as well.

5. Love yourself.

You learn something new about yourself every single day. Learn to love every part of yourself. Know that you are worthy. Learn from your mistakes. Don’t accept anything other than genuine love from anyone. That is most important. You set the standards for yourself. Love yourself. Remember that.
