Congratulations! If you are reading articles and love learning, you are already ahead of most. You clearly want to crush it. Today I have very good news for you. The secrets to career success are simpler than most believe. And phew, it’s not about how many hours you sit with your computer or how well you can create an excel spreadsheet.

Truth is, while the secrets are simple, it doesn’t mean they are easy. We all know about these three wellness tips: eat healthy, exercise regularly and sleep eight hours. But, how many of us are doing this on a regular basis? Come on, be honest. But don’t beat yourself up.

We all know deep down what we need to do. All good habits require ongoing practice and commitment. Every day we do our best. We never give up especially on ourselves.

It’s the same with our careers. Just like the fundamentals for a healthy lifestyle, there are fundamentals for a healthy career. There are three that I have seen my career super heroes use. They have worked for me too.

These are my favorite career Must-Dos: Rally your relationships, practice positivity, and master selfmotivation. I call these Must-Dos your RPMs. I love a good action-oriented acronym. And, they will absolutely without a doubt keep you moving forward.

So when you are doing your proactive planning, be sure you focus on these three areas as a priority:

Rally Your Relationships

More good news. You don’t have to do anything alone. People are what you need when you are looking for new ideas, some specialized expertise or just a morale boost.

No matter how independent we are, we all need a super hero squad around us. These are the people we can count on at a moment’s notice no matter what. If you have this, be deeply grateful. If you don’t, start recruiting your crew now.

Don’t forget to also reach back into your past and stay connected to all the people who made you laugh, supported your success and taught you new tricks. You can go all the way back to your teachers and first bosses. Keep your network diverse and expansive as you never know who is going to have a key you need. There is comfort in numbers.

Make new contacts too. With Linkedin, there are really no excuses. You can find nearly anybody. Grow your network with people doing exactly what your ultimate dream is. Learn from the doers.

Remember. Prioritize people.

Practice Positivity.

Energy is everything. Be sure you have yours turned up on a high positive frequency when you go out into the world. That’s how you attract good things into your life. Positivity is a super power.

Stay grateful for how far you’ve come and where you are today. Gratitude is another magical secret. Gratitude fuels positivity. Be grateful you have what it takes to get where you are going.

Being positive helps ensure your buzz is positive too. So never complain. You can instead state an obstacle and then an idea to overcome it. Be flexible. There are lots of ways to tackle something.

Be the one everyone comes to when they need a shot of positivity. Your positive energy and ideas are big keys for moving forward.

Stay positive. No matter what.

Master Self Motivation.

If you are lucky you have a good leader. However, to progress in life you really need to lead yourself. That’s right. You get to be the best boss you’ve ever had. Nobody is going to know about your goals or care as much about them as you.

Every day, remind yourself of the end goal. Strategize. Develop action steps to get there. And make meaningful progress forward. Do this every. single. day.

Get ready to be your own coach and cheerleader too. If you are behind in the game, be tough on yourself (with tough love of course.) If you are winning, cheer and celebrate. And then leverage your momentum and go as far as you can go.

Motivate yourself. And, you move ahead. Simple as that.

Your Three MUST DO List Summary

Whether you are just getting started, looking to get promoted or ready for a whole new opportunity, your MUST DO list is the same. RPMs baby. If you want to get to the top, this is what keeps you moving forward. It’s all about your relationships, your positivity, and your own selfmotivation.

Even if you are happy in your career, making ongoing progress makes you feel even happier and more fulfilled.

Moving forward is mandatory for our well-being.

The tips are really simple.  But, it’s not necessarily easy to do your daily MUST-Dos. But you are on this site and reading this article so I know you got this.

Keep learning. Keep practicing. Keep moving forward with passion. Never give up.

See you at the top!

  1. I absolutely agree with everything I read here!! Especially being your own motivator, it’s good to have a support system but being able to be your own cheerleader is much more powerful ❣️
