A few years ago a friend of mine dragged me to a life coaching seminar. I’ll admit to you that I wasn’t into it. I had done so much inner work that I  figured there wasn’t anything left me to learn. The last exercise of the day was a visualization exercise. Much to my surprise, I had an extremely powerful experience where I could see the person that I wanted to become and that was the successful business owner who achieved all her financial goals. For the first time, I could see and feel the life that I wanted. It was as if the wealthy successful version of myself was within my grasp.

After that experience I started asking my clients to envision themselves in the life they want, as the wealthy woman of their dreams. After that small shift of adding the visioning exercise to their financial planning activities, my clients reported that they felt more confident about their financial situation, excited and hopeful for the future.

For years, athletes and high achievers have been using visualization to achieve their goals. You can use the same trick to achieve your financial goals, too.

What is visualization and how does it work?

Visualization can be used help you imagine yourself meeting your goals. Athletes will imagine themselves cross the finish line first. Other high performers imagine themselves meeting their goals with ease. You can use this same tool to imagine yourself meeting your financial goals.

The process of visualization is pretty straightforward. Find a quiet place to sit for a while. Then, think of your big juicy goals. You know, the ones that scare you a little bit because they’re so huge. Once you have your big goals in your mind, ask yourself “what if”. What if those dreams were possible? What if that was your life? What would that life look like? Ask yourself questions, get curious, and step into that life for a minute.

Get into the details of that life. What are you doing for your job? Where will you live? How will you dress? What will make you most happy about this life?

Visualization is powerful because you can see and feel your dreams transform into a reality. It’s almost like a preview into your new wealth life. You can also try those dreams on for size. Maybe owning a corner bakery sounds really great, but doesn’t quite feel like the right next step for you. This might be something that you realize during visualization.

Use visualization to also remind yourself of those big goals and dreams, especially when the road to your dreams gets rough. Visualization can also help you with your financial goals, specifically. Can you see yourself getting that promotion or becoming a successful business owner? Can you imagine yourself living the life that you want?

Spend time with the visualization of your wealthy future life once a week to not only remind yourself of your financial goals, but also to get a sneak peak of your life to come. When you’re having a rough week or aren’t to sure if you can achieve your goals, remind yourself that your wealthy life is possible and it’s waiting for you.
