Tameka Thomas  From Domestic Violence Survivor to Empowerment Icon

Tameka Thomas, an inspiring entrepreneur, author, speaker, and mother of five, has become a beacon of hope for women everywhere. A survivor of domestic violence, Tameka turned her pain into purpose, founding Purity Walk, a platform dedicated to empowering women. Her journey from overcoming unimaginable hardships to building a thriving business is nothing short of extraordinary.

Born and raised in Pompano Beach, Tamekas story began as a teen mother at 17 years old. At just 19, with two young children, Tameka found herself at a crossroads ”struggling financially, emotionally, and physically with little hope for the future. Yet, even in the darkest of times, she found strength within herself to push forward.

Tameka later had three more children as a young adult, but unfortunately, her life was marked by further abuse. She found herself in a relationship with a man who verbally and physically abused her, leading to deep depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and self-sabotage. Despite the ongoing trauma, Tameka found the strength to press on, turning to her children as her motivation and drawing on God as the foundation of her purpose and her business.

Through her determination and resilience, Tameka not only earned her high school diploma while pregnant with her second child but went on to become a successful entrepreneur. Today, she stands as the founder of Purity Walk, a powerful womens empowerment brand, and Purity Tax Solutions, a financial services company she founded two years ago. She is also an active real estate agent. But its her work empowering women that drives her passion.

Beyond her professional success, Tameka is a devoted mother of five who balances her family life with an unwavering passion for service. Her story is one of determination, courage, and faith—a beacon of hope for women everywhere. In this exclusive interview, Women On Topp delves into Tameka’s inspiring journey, exploring the defining moments that shaped her, the lessons she’s learned, and her mission to help women step into their power and purpose.

1. Tameka, your journey from a survivor of domestic violence to a successful businesswoman is truly inspiring. Can you share what gave you the strength to rise above those challenges and transform your life?

My strength came from within, but it also came from the realization that I had more to offer the world than I had been led to believe. I knew that if I didnt break free, my children and I would be stuck in a cycle of pain. I chose to rise for them, and in doing so, I also rose for myself. My purpose was always there, even when I couldnt see it. And God has been my foundation throughout it all ”my business partner, guiding me every step of the way.

2. How did your personal experiences shape the way you view resilience, and how do you channel that into your daily life and work?

Resilience isnt about never falling; its about getting up each time you do. My personal experiences taught me to embrace setbacks as learning opportunities. I channel this resilience into my work by staying grounded in my mission to help others. Every challenge becomes a lesson that fuels my drive to do more, to serve more.

3. As a mother of five, how do you balance your family responsibilities with your demanding professional endeavors? Whats your approach to managing it all?

Time management is key. Ive learned to set boundaries and prioritize. My family comes first, so I make sure that Im present for them. But I also have systems in place in my businesses that allow me to serve my clients and community while making sure I dont miss those precious family moments.

4. You’ve dedicated much of your life to empowering others. What motivates you to keep going, especially on days when things are tough?

Knowing that someone, somewhere is waiting for my message keeps me going. On tough days, I remind myself that the journey Im on isnt just for me it’s  for the women who need to see that there is light at the end of the tunnel. My empowerment work isnt just a career; its my lifes calling.

5. What was the turning point for you when you realized that your voice, story, and experiences could help others who were going through similar struggles?

When I started to share my story, I received countless messages from women who had been through similar pain. Thats when I realized my voice wasnt just for me”it was for them. My story was a tool for healing, and I knew that I had to keep sharing it.

6. What advice would you give to women who are currently struggling in toxic or abusive situations? How can they begin the journey toward reclaiming their power?

Leave quietly and safely. Seek therapy to begin your healing journey. You dont have to have all the answers, but you do have to take that first step. The journey will be tough, but remember, your past doesnt define your future.

7. In your experience, what are some of the most important factors for healing after trauma, both personally and in terms of supporting others?

Healing begins with self-compassion. Its also essential to surround yourself with people who uplift you. For others, simply listening can be powerful. Sometimes, all a person needs is someone who understands and doesnt judge.

8. Youve been a beacon of hope for many women. How do you personally stay motivated and grounded despite your many roles and responsibilities?

Prayer,  journaling, and leaning on my family and support system keep me grounded. I also take time for self-care. Its easy to give and give, but if you don’t take  time for yourself, burnout is inevitable.

9. How has your own upbringing and life experiences shaped your view of success, and how do you define it today?

My upbringing taught me that success isnt about material things, about growth, resilience, and impact. Today, success to me is being able to serve my community, empower women, and create a legacy for my children.

10. Looking back, is there a particular moment in your life that stands out as a pivotal turning point, whether in your personal or professional journey?

The day I walked across that stage pregnant with my second child to receive my high school diploma was a pivotal moment. It showed me that no matter the circumstances, I could achieve. That moment gave me the strength to believe that I could achieve anything I set my mind to.
