From Boutique to Bookshelves: Ashley Kidd’s Creative Journey Continues

In this special feature for Women On Topp, we have the pleasure of revisiting the remarkable journey of Ashley Kidd — entrepreneur, mother, and now published children’s book author. Known for her passionate drive and authenticity, Ashley first inspired us through the story of Ashley Jean Boutique, her online children’s clothing store rooted in love, resilience, and bold creativity. Since then, she has continued to evolve, guided by her deep connection to family and an unwavering belief in creating with purpose.

Now, Ashley steps into a new realm of storytelling with the release of her debut children’s book, Where is Wyatt? — a playful, heartwarming tale based entirely on real-life adventures with her spirited 3-year-old son. Bursting with humor, wonder, and authentic parenting moments, the book captures Wyatt’s curious nature and the beautiful chaos of motherhood in all its glory. From crawling into floor vents to hiding in kitchen cabinets, Wyatt’s imaginative antics have become a charming symbol of childhood joy — and a source of inspiration for Ashley’s latest creative chapter.

But Where is Wyatt? is more than just a book — it’s a legacy in the making. Ashley’s journey is one marked by profound loss, unexpected joy, and a powerful ability to turn life’s rawest moments into something beautiful. Through every venture, she reminds us of the strength found in vulnerability, the magic of motherhood, and the importance of following your creative instincts — even when the path is unfamiliar.

Join us as Ashley shares the inspiration behind her new book, her hopes for a series, how her audience has embraced this next step, and the emotional impact of seeing her child reflected in print. With passion, heart, and her signature unstoppable energy, Ashley Kidd proves that when life gives you stories — you tell them, you publish them, and most of all, you live them fully.

1. Congratulations on your new children’s book, “Where is Wyatt?”! What inspired you to write it, and how did the idea come to life?

Motherhood and my children inspired me to do this book. My 3yr old son Wyatt is a pistol and is very activate and on the go. Watching him navigate his personality through play urged me to write this. Ever since he was able to walk we would find him getting into the oddest of places through out the house, and I mean everywhere. By the time the 5th craziest place came along, I said okay its time to share this reality with the world, because not only is it cute but its actually hilarious and amazing he did this.

2. The book feels very personal and playful — is Wyatt really that curious in real life?

Are the scenes in the book based on actual moments? Everything you read is 100% true and real. Wyatt would do these things when we would be in the other room cleaning or going to the bathroom and we would come back and he would be in the floor vent waste deep, or up inside the kitchen cabinet in the slot where the canned goods go, and so on. Yes the scenes are the actual moments.

3. How did it feel to see the final version in your hands for the first time — with Wyatt on the cover?

Extremely proud and overly joyed. Unbelievable really. I have just written and published a children’s book that is going global in the publishing world and it will forever be in our family passed down and we will be able to walk into a book store and see Where Is Wyatt.

4. Do you see the book as a one-time special project or the beginning of a series?

Could we expect more books about Wyatt’s adventures? Yes yes yes, there will be a series and it really excites me to do it because he is a special little guy that has an unknowingly gravitational pull towards him. His funny, charming and kind heart will capture the world very soon. 8. How has your audience — both boutique customers and fellow moms — responded to the book so far? Everyone has been overly supportive and positive. Very excited for us and cheering us on from start to finish. Which keeps the fuel burning for me. We are blessed to be surrounded by loving supporters both near and far.

5. What was Wyatt’s reaction when he first saw himself as a character in a book?

Wyatt had the biggest smile on his face as he pointed and said, thats me Wyatt. When we got the final copy of the book before it was published we pulled it up on the computer and went through the book with him and he was just in amazement. Glued to the computer and then he wanted to read it again himself. It was very cute to watch.

6. As someone who’s experienced both immense loss and incredible joy, how do those emotions shape the way you parent — and the way you create?

Everything has become more sensitized. More patience and understanding with my children. Taking the time to capture all the precious moments, giving all the love, connecting to children in general for me is empathetic as I feel what they feel and can help navigate their feelings. I try to teach and show them loving lessons by the time spent with them whether that is cooking, baking, planting, smelling flowers, taking hikes, making friends, giving hugs, showing up, providing all the fun toys, and most of all reading every night. They are the purity to the world and creating things revolved around them brings out motherhood for me in ways I hadn’t thought of. I just know the urge in my heart is there and I do it for my kids. Although this book right now is revolved around Wyatt, we have a teenage daughter whom has experienced the same kind of love from us and for the first 13 years of her life it was just us 3 and she has her own special moments herself and we would do anything for the both of them to see their happiness flourish. Family is everything to us and I am not going to let any of that time fly by without capturing it.
